How long is the Request For Expression of Interest (REOI) Submission process open?

  • The REOI will be open from Friday, Feb 16 to Tuesday, Apr 30
  • It can be found on the New Brunswick Opportunities webpage on the Service New Brunswick website. The link to the site is here and the specific reference ID is document # XXXX-24-I29 (that is a capital ‘i’ not a 1).

Why does NB Power own public charging sites/stations in the province?

  • One of the roles of NB Power is to be an enabler to support the transition to e-mobility
  • Provide reliable publicly available charging stations to electric vehicle owners travelling in our province in support of the technology

Why is NB Power growing the eCharge network?

  • To ensure a reliable, and sustainable province wide network
  • EV sales are growing year over year
  • Support the province’s Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) and the country in the transition to Net Zero

How reliable are NB Power charging stations?

  • The eCharge Network is currently the most reliable, developed and recognized charging infrastructure in New Brunswick
  • NB Power only uses industry-leading equipment with top technical specifications that supports reliability and uptime
  • NB Power has agreements in place with manufacturers and suppliers for parts and service to restore stations as quickly as possible
  • Present network availability exceeds 98% (this limits the number of complaints site hosts will receive from EV drivers, letting site hosts concentrate on running their business)

What kind of support do EV drivers have from NB Power

  • Drivers have access to a toll-free number displayed on each charger with 24/7 coverage to troubleshoot any issues at charging stations

What is NB Power responsible for?

  • Purchasing and installing the equipment
  • Installing all the equipment
  • Supplying and paying for the energy supplied to EV drivers
  • Maintaining the equipment for its lifetime
  • Growing the charging site in mutual agreement with the site host

What is the Site Host responsible for?

  • Keeping the site clean and accessible for EV driverswhich includes, but is not limited to:
  • Picking up any litter
  • Snow clearing
  • Reporting any site anomalies to NB Power

Who collects the revenue collected from EV drivers from the charging stations?

  • All revenue collected from charging goes to NB Power

How do site hosts benefit from having public fast chargers at their site? 

  • Demonstrates a shared commitment to a more sustainable future
  • Increased traffic at your location
  • Increased activity in nearby community
  • Increased retail sales at the host site (if applicable)
  • No investment required

How busy are EV charging sites?

  • The highest use sites will see over 10 charging sessions on average per day
  • The lowest use sites may only see on average 1 charging session per day
  • Average charging session time is between 30 and 40 minutes
  • The network served over 20,000 charging sessions in 2022 and over 30,000 in 2023

How many chargers can you install at my location?

  • The number of chargers that can, or would be installed at a location depends on a variety of criteria. The decision behind site selection and configuration (where and how many chargers) takes into consideration the following scenarios, in no particular order.
    • Estimation of site utilization
    • Amenities in local area for drivers
    • Ability of site host for long term commitment
    • Area accessible to electric vehicles for charging
    • Flexibility of placement for the equipment
    • Access to grid capacity / cost of connection
    • Ability to grow the site

If my business or municipality is not selected to partner with NB Power to have fast chargers installed at my location, what other avenues do I have to get charging at my location? 

  • Any business owner or municipality can do like many have and buy their own e-charge network branded charger and be part of the network. Several municipalities, and businesses have already done so. If this is an option you’d like to consider, please email the eCharge Network team at NB Power at EVSE-EAVE@nbpower.com.
