We’re upgrading our systems.   During this time, you may have missing information or estimates in your online usage graph. Some bills may be estimated. Any differences will be fixed automatically once actual meter data is received. The meter will continue to measure your energy use correctly. Your electricity service will not be affected. My Energy Pilot

Help us learn how New Brunswick households respond during periods of high electricity demand

Participate in My Energy Pilot and receive $100 when you complete the pilot requirements

NB Power is inviting eligible residential customers to register for My Energy Pilot, a voluntary customer learning initiative taking place from December 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

At certain times, electricity use across New Brunswick is much higher than usual. These periods of high electricity demand, sometimes called peak demand, can place additional pressure on the electricity system.

Through My Energy Pilot, NB Power wants to learn how households respond when asked to temporarily reduce or delay electricity use during these periods.

We want to understand what motivates households to participate, what actions they are willing to take, and how best to communicate during periods of high electricity demand. Your participation will help inform future customer energy programs and communications.

During the pilot, there may be up to 12 scheduled periods when participants will be asked to temporarily reduce or delay some electricity use. These periods, called demand response events, will take place on weekday mornings between 7 and 9 a.m. Participants will receive advance notice before each event.

During an event, every effort counts. If you take steps to reduce or delay your electricity use—even if it is only minor—you'll be considered to have participated. Whether you make one small change, or several, every action helps us learn what works and contributes to the success of the pilot.

Participation is voluntary, and no special equipment is required. Participants who complete the pilot requirements will receive a $100 via Interac e-Transfer after the pilot ends.

Space is limited to 1,000 participants.

After you submit your registration, we will review your eligibility and let you know whether you have been selected. Before registering, please review the eligibility requirements and pilot details below.

What Is Demand Response?

Demand response is a way for customers to help reduce pressure on the electricity system during periods of high demand.

During these periods, customers are asked to temporarily reduce or delay some electricity use. For example, they may choose to adjust their thermostat, delay using major appliances or take simple energy-saving actions.

When many customers take part, these small actions can help reduce demand and support a more efficient and reliable electricity system.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in the My Energy Pilot, you must:

  • Be an active NB Power residential customer.
  • Be the account holder or authorized to act on the account.
  • Have an NB Power online account. Don’t have an online account yet? It’s quick and easy to create one: nbpower.com/signup
  • Have a valid email address. A mobile phone number is also required if you choose to receive text message notifications.
  • Have a communicating smart meter with at least one year of electricity-use data before the pilot begins.
  • Be available to participate in weekday morning demand response events between 7 and 9 a.m.
  • Be available during the pilot period, from December 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027.

 Important

  • Only one person per household may register.
  • NB Power will review your registration to confirm your eligibility.
  • Up to 1,000 eligible customers will be selected to participate. If available spaces are filled, eligible customers may be offered a place on the waitlist.
  • Submitting a registration does not guarantee a place in the pilot.
  • NB Power will use smart meter data to compare your household's electricity use during a demand response event with its typical use during similar periods. At least one year of historical data is needed to measure participation accurately.

How the Pilot Works

    1. Register for the Pilot
Complete the registration form and choose how you'd like to receive pilot notifications. NB Power will review your information to confirm your eligibility and available space.
    2. Receive Your Registration Decision
We’ll let you know whether you have been accepted, placed on the waitlist or are not eligible to participate.
If you are accepted, you will receive a welcome package explaining what to expect, how to prepare, and what you must do to qualify for the $100 incentive.
    3. Receive an Event Notification
If a demand response event is scheduled, you'll receive a notification by 12 p.m. (noon) on the previous business day. If an event is scheduled for a Monday morning, you'll be notified by noon on the preceding Friday.
    4. Take Part in the Event
Events will take place on weekday mornings between 7 and 9 a.m.
During an event, you'll be asked to temporarily reduce or delay some electricity use. You may choose to:
      • Adjust your thermostat settings, if it is safe and comfortable to do so.
      • Delay laundry, dishwashing or other major appliance use.
      • Take a shorter shower or delay hot water use until after the event ends.
      • Turn off unnecessary lighting and electronics.
You can choose the actions that make sense for your household. NB Power will not control your thermostat, appliances or other equipment. Participation is voluntary. However, participants must meet the pilot participation requirements to qualify for the $100 incentive.
    5. NB Power Measures Results
NB Power will use smart meter data to compare your household's electricity use during the event with its typical electricity use during similar periods. This information is used only to measure participation and evaluate the pilot.
This will help us determine whether your household reduced or delayed some electricity use and whether the event counts toward your participation requirement.
Results will be tracked throughout the pilot to determine whether you have met the requirements for the $100 incentive.
About your privacy: Your smart meter data is handled securely and in accordance with NB Power’s corporate policies, our Code of Ethics and the Province of New Brunswick’s Right to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  Learn more
    6. Receive the Incentive
Participants who complete the pilot requirements will receive a $100 by Interac e-Transfer after the pilot ends.

      To qualify, you must:

      • Remain enrolled for the duration of the pilot.
      • Participate in at least 80% of the demand response events that are called.
      • Complete a short survey during the pilot and another when the pilot ends.
      • Continue to meet all program eligibility requirements.
After the pilot ends, NB Power will verify participation and send the incentive by Interac e‑Transfer using the email address provided during registration.
