Home Energy Estimator

This interactive tool provides a general estimate of how a typical home’s appliances, heating and cooling systems, and everyday activities contribute to monthly energy use.
Because every home is unique—insulation, size, age, heating system, and personal habits all play a role—the results may not exactly match your actual household usage.
This tool is meant to get you thinking about your home’s energy usage. It is intended to be a helpful guide, not a precise measurement. For the most accurate information, log into your NB Power online account to view your energy use in daily, hourly, or 15-minute intervals.
If the home energy estimator doesn't align with your winter bill—especially in the case of older homes—that difference suggests there may be heat loss or efficiency issues. Visit SaveEnergyNB to learn about programs and rebates that can support-energy efficiency improvements.

Three types of energy consumption
Base Load Energy Usage
Base load represents the energy your home uses consistently throughout the year and reflects your household’s constant power needs and lifestyle patterns. Your baseload changes based primarily on the number of people living in your home.
Heating & Cooling Energy Usage
Heating is the largest driver of winter electricity costs in New Brunswick, while cooling contributes to your costs in the summer. Unlike your steady year-round base load, heating and cooling energy usage varies with the weather.
Other Household Energy Use
These less common items often run occasionally or at varying times--but can still contribute a noticeable share to your total electricity use when combined.
