Priority Customer Information

Some people need electricity all the time because they use important medical equipment. If someone in your home needs this kind of equipment, NB Power has a program called Priority Customer. This helps us know who needs extra support when the power goes out, whether it’s planned or unplanned.

This program does not mean the power will always stay on, but it helps us understand your needs and keep in touch with you during outages.

What the Priority Customer Designation Means

When your household is registered as a Priority Customer:

  • You will receive advance notification of planned power interruptions.
  • Your designation will be considered as much as possible when NB Power is establishing restoration priorities during unplanned outages.
  • You will still experience outages, and you may not be the first customer restored in your area.
  • During the winter months, Priority Customers are given additional consideration as part of NB Power’s disconnection practices. Our approach focuses on maintaining service while working with customers to manage their accounts.

This designation helps us plan and respond, but it does not override safety protocols, system conditions, or restoration sequencing.

Backup Power Is Essential

NB Power cannot guarantee that electricity will be available 100% of the time. Because medically required equipment must remain powered, it is critical that you have a reliable backup system in place.

Customers are responsible for:

  • Maintaining their own emergency or backup power equipment
  • Ensuring it is kept in good working condition
  • Having a plan in place for extended outages

NB Power cannot be held responsible for backup systems that are not properly maintained or fail during an outage.

How to Apply

To be designated as a Priority Customer, you must complete the Priority Customer Information Form with a:

  • Licensed healthcare provider, or
  • Qualified medical equipment vendor

Once complete, please return the form to NB Power as soon as possible.
