Steel pole installation on Lameque causeway starting Dec. 13, 2017

2017-12-07

Lameque, N.B. – NB Power will begin installing 17 steel poles on the Lameque causeway Dec. 13, 2017. The work is being done to strengthen its transmission system from Shippagan to Lameque.

Barring any weather related issues, the work is expected to be completed in 10 days.

During this period, traffic on the causeway will be reduced to one lane during working hours.

The decision to install steel poles resulted from a severe thunder storm in May which resulted in winds which some meteorologists estimated to be 190 kilometres an hour. The winds broke 30 poles in the Acadian Peninsula.
